In order to make a well-dressed bed one must first become acquainted with all of the different bed dressing options. A few well-known options exist such as bedspreads, quilts, comforters, or blankets and there are also some less well-known options such as doonas or coverlets. Doonas, bedspreads, and covers are designed to be used alone whereas coverlets, throw blankets, and quilts are used as accent pieces and can be combined to achieve the desired effect.
- Whether used to cover multi-layers, or just a sheet, bedspread is the general term for the overlaying piece of pre-filled bed linen, perched atop a bed.
- Comforters are generally lacking in dyed colors and embroidery, which makes them different from quilts.
- A Doona is a soft bag, filled with natural, or synthetic filler, usually covered in a casing, like a pillow.
“Putting together a beautiful bed ensemble can be overwhelming – and expensive. But a few choice purchases and/or thoughtful uses of pieces you already own can easily result in a gorgeously dressed bed.”
