A man named Curtis McDaniel began to lose the color in his skin as a pre-teen. He had a condition called vitiligo which causes patches of skin to lose their color. After being diagnosed, he was teased in school and had a difficult time feeling good about his appearance. After his father died, he turned to his faith and started attending church regularly. He was discovered as a model after he posted a picture of himself on social media and it was shared by a model. He got calls from modeling agencies and worked on the MTV series “True Life”. He is currently at college.
- He started seeing his skin as a gift and not a curse, and that’s when things started to change for him.
- His change in perspective led him to having more self-confidence.
- He doesn’t want to hide his condition because it is part of who is is.
“”My father, he was struggling with certain addictions. He sat me down one day,” McDaniel said. “He was like, ‘No, I want you to be better than me. … When you grow up, never put your hand on a woman. Never drink. Never smoke. Never do drugs. And above all things, put God first.’ “”
